WHY IS THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH AN EVIL PLACE? because i say so. but i can support that.
1. everything there is bloody expensive
yes that's right, everything there is damn expensive. but it's expected since disneyland is a tourist attraction. souvenirs are still alright. i mean, these things are authentic disney merchandises after all. but food prices there are jacked up like five to six times. even a plain hot dog bun (with the hot dog) costs 6 usd without taxes. it's daylight robbery i tell you. seaworld serves much better tasting stuff for just a little more. imagine 2.5 hot dog buns costing the same as a plate of flame seared salmon steak with fries. mad i tell you.
2. i dont feel happy at all over there
everyone says disneyland is the happiest place on earth, but i dont think so. i dont feel any happier over there. in fact, i enjoyed california adventure park much more than disneyland. more rides, more thrills. the only thing i liked about disneyland was the fantasmic show. it's this awesome light water show that's damn nice. everyone should watch it, pushing and shoving through the crowd while tripping over small kids is definitely worth it (but dont worry, i didnt trip over any). fireworks are overrated, unless you're somewhere near the front, dont bother trying to get a good seat at the back cos you'll be most probably be blocked by trees or tall people. i took a video of the fireworks, but because there was this damn tall guy in front of me, i had to raise my hand up high. damn tiring i tell you. anyway back to topic. no i dont feel any happier there. even the hat i bought didnt cheer me up much. the only joy i got out of the hat was to irritate handstand and butterfingers, and maybe the occasional jealous glance i get from little kids. but yeah, still not that happy. california adventure park > disneyland.
3. disneyland brings out the feminine side in little boys.
someone told me she saw a little boy blowing kisses at passerbys, and hypothesised that he learnt that from the characters that did it when they are in the parade or leaving photoshoots. little boys should be learning how to be manly like laughing at other little boys blowing kisses at passerbys, and not blowing kisses at passerbys. they will grow up to be girly men. not a good thing, causing little boys to become girly men.
4. there is a high chance of catching some weird communicable disease there
by that, i mean h1n1. the people density there is damn high, especially at the events like the fireworks and fantasmic and aladin. btw aladin was funny, but i fell asleep at the beginning. ok so anyway, most of the time you'll be spending time pushing and shoving against people when going for such events. imagine someone has a cold in the crowd, and happily sneezes. then that's it. tio h1n1 already.
5. the journey there is DAMN LONG
3 hours journey there, and 3 hours back on public transport. that's a lot of time wasted. luckily i brought my laptop along so i managed to complete a bit of my work. no car cos that means extra money spent.
so basically, i didnt like disneyland much. maybe that's because i've been to the one in tokyo. or maybe im too old for this. california adventure park is so much more fun for me. all the rides are damn shiok.
there's california screamin, which is this coaster ride with no stops, 3 downslopes, 3 high speed upslopes, many bends, one loop. damn nice. then there's mulholland madness, which is another coaster ride with one millions bends and a couple of downslopes. fun also cos the carts go through the bends at high speeds. the tower of terror is not bad also. basically it's the free fall thing, just that it's in darkness and everyone is sitted on chairs with legs touching the floor. so it's *not that* scary. the mickey mouse ferris wheel was not bad also. it's this ferris wheel with gondolas that can swing back and forth. damn cool.
i think i enjoyed this much more than disneyland. ok time to sleep.

I WATCHED HARRY POTTER
we went to watch harry potter today at the Fox theatres cinema, where they usually have many premieres. we bought our tickets way in advance, and the thing is there's no allocated seating, so you have to go and queue beforehand so as to get good seats.
our show was at 7pm, and we reached about 5pm..and there was already a line.. those in the front were like wearing harry potter uniform and wearing harry potter scarves etc..when we went in at around 6.30..the place was like this auditorium..with upstairs and downstairs and even a curtain in front of the screen.
The sound effects and graphics turn out to be even more fine than in singapore! especially the graphics on the screen. really good and defined and clear. and the audience here is really appreciative. they whoop and cheer and all that when the show is about to start (and they stay really quiet throughout) and the clap at the end of the show!
anyway i'm quite satisfied with this harry potter movie.. much better than the previous crappy movies..and all the changes they made to the book in the movie are all rather acceptable..tho we all felt that some scenes were rather unnecessary.
ok time to sleep! pip pip! [as dumbledore would say]

that was a biased entry
by the way butterfinger's omelette tasted the best out of all, and that was unanimously agreed on by all the three of us.
AND it was not chao ta ok. it just underwent a bit of maillard reaction. and the camera not enough exposure.

AND THE BEST OMELETTE GOES TO...
...tallnut with the nice looking unchaotaed omelette by a vote of 7 to 5 to 0! what a win!
butterfingers made the nicely folded omelette, too bad it was over chaotaed. the one at the back belonged to handstand. handstand tried to get rid of the not very nice fragment of egg at the side of the plate, too bad we stopped it before the evidence was gone.
we are all having midterms this week, so there wont be any new entries. tallnut is now waiting for omelettes from handstand and butterfingers.

PEW BOOM BOOM BOOM
the fireworks was awesome. like awesome awesome. it's the first time im seeing fireworks this up close, even though we were still a few miles away from the actual location where the fireworks were set off. they had some really cool ones, like heart shaped fireworks, rings, falling stars and globules. most of the fireworks were in white blue or red. damn nice.
we almost spent the evening at the wrong beach until some lifeguard told us we couldnt see the fireworks at the santa monica part of venice beach. in the end we had to walk 15 mins down the road to the marina del rey area. but i think it was well worth the effort cos the fireworks were really bloody good. back at home i've never bothered to catch the ones during national day. dont know why im suddenly so interested.
the beach was damn bloody cold. everyone else was shivering and chattering and shaking frmo the sea breeze. i think it was something like 17 to 18 deg celsius. but it was still worth it cos the fireworks were really bloody good. and there were all these random people trying to set off random fireworks around us. some succeeded, but there were more failed attempts than isuccessful ones. confirm some people got hurt from the fail ones.
the journey back was a nightmare. there was this really bad jam from the beach to something like 1 or 2 miles up. and there was no bus service and we couldnt find any big blue bus bus stops. so in the end we had to brave the night breeze and trek for something like 30 mins before we got to the first big blue bus bus stop. halfway thorugh we went to this pizzeria and got a freaking big pizza cos we overestimated ourselves. and the pizza had the works, which means there was pepperoni, ham, cheese, capsicum, artichokes, olives and tomatoes on it. we were like o: when we saw the pizza. but that was the best pizza i've had so far, so no complains there. when we reached there we found out that the bus wasnt in operation at that particular bus stop cos of the 4th july parade. so after a while we decided to call for a cab, which means we'll be paying something like 15 each. but heng a big blue bus lady came in her car and told us bus services were resuming, so we were like, yay no need to pay 15 bucks.
halfway through the ride back we found out that the bus wont be going back to westwood and we had to transfer buses, and everyone on board the bus were damn sian. in the end we reached the apartment at something like 1230am. which is also the latest time we had dinner so far. so basically the pizza doesnt really ocunt as dinner anymore, it was more like supper for us. anyway this is the first time (and hopefully the last time) we got back to the apartment from outside westwood. it's quite an experience. america has quite a lot of siao people, those you'll definitely want to siam when you see them. not safe to be out too late.
now im like typing this while half awake. im going to finish the little bit of mountain dew left in front of me before i go sleep.
btw the omelette competition is over. we shall tally results and post tomrorow. winner will get the most bragging rights and a lifetime supply of free omelettes from the other two.

I HAVE GOLD PLATED TEXTBOOKS
the textbooks here are bloody, bloody expensive. it's like the pages are made of gold leaf with diamond encrusted fonts. bloody ex. we should be happy for the price we are paying back in singapore. i just did a rough calculation and found out that i've already spent almost 25% on textbooks, excluding apartment rent. and the best thing is i spent 101 usd on a course pack, which is essentially a thick stack of photocopied journal articles that's nicely bound together. damn expensive. i feel sad for myself already.
we went to the beach on sunday. but we were not there to get a tan. just look see around only and hoping to spot some yandaos and chiobus. the whole beach was packed with people, but we didnt really manage to see any yandao chiobus. other than that nothing much really happened. la is a boring place with nothing to do. but at least it's quite happening, a lot of happening happenings happening in this boring place.
school is fun and boring at the same time. both of my lecturers dont use powerpoint slides, so we have to copy notes like mad all the time while trying to keep up with what the lecturers are saying. i promosie i wont complain about popo's 200 slides notes anymore. having slides are so much more convenient, plus it allows for us to daydream for a bit.
ok im going to sleep. need to wake up early to webcam back home.
